Hello my author friends! Looking for an image of your leading man/men, woman/women for your work?  I know you have a vision of their appearance in your head, so let’s connect. Tell me all about them and then… let’s make some magic happen!

Brian Huey’s images are sold for EXCLUSIVE book cover use.  Once contracted, neither that image nor similar images are available from me.  I will mark it as sold and await the cover reveal to repost and share the work that we’ve created for your book.

Option 1 –

Exclusive licensing of a pre-existing image: Starting at $500 ($300 photographer fee, $200-$500 model fee, per model)

Notes:

  1. The model fee is determined by the model or their agency. The $200 base model fee is a minimum. Model fees can range from $200-$500 per model, per photo.
  2. The photographer and model fees will be paid separately (Invoices will be provided in the email contract when purchasing a photo).
Each party must be paid in full before the author receives the final high-resolution image. If the image is unable to be paid in full before the deadline, the author will forfeit the image and it will be reuploaded to social media and websites for purchase.
  3. If there are multiple models in the image, the fee is $200-$500 per model.
The photographer rate of $300 remains the same regardless of the number of models present in the photo.
  4. Are you looking to use the same cover image on more than one cover? There will be a $100 fee per model and photographer per cover.  (Example: 1 model = $200, 2 models = $300, etc.)
  5. Payment Plans are available. A $150 deposit reserves an image/removes it from Social Media/Website listing.
A minimum of $150 must be paid per month to fulfill the contract agreement.
When the image is paid for in full it will be emailed in high-resolution to the author.
  6. How long do I have to pay off an image during a payment plan?
    – 3 months for a solo photo.
    – 4 months for a couple’s photo.
A maximum of 3 images can be on a payment plan at once per author.
  7. Teaser Imagery: When purchasing a cover image, if available, a teaser or multiple teasers can be purchased from the same set that the cover was selected from for an additional $50 per teaser.
  8. What can a teaser image be used for?
Promotional use, (items given at author signings – bookmarks, key chains, postcards, etc.) It does not include items for commercial use such as posters or calendars that will be sold.
  9. Designers are encouraged to edit a cover image to achieve the vision the author has which includes: changing hair color, adding/removing tattoos, changing eye color, changing clothing color, modifying the background, scaling to allow for titles, etc. However, a designer may not change a model’s skin color or body shape to change their ethnicity, gender, etc. (Exception: Sci-fi/fantasy genres (possibly others not coming to mind) will often make aesthetic changes. Let’s discuss those up front and gain approval from the model(s) together.)  As a part of our contract, the photographer is a critical approval step in the design process.
  10. The contract is between the Author and Brian Huey for use on the Author’s work. The image(s) cannot be resold once purchased unless Brian Huey has permitted to do so.  (In such cases, a contract with the same conditions as above would be drawn up for the new purchaser.  Usage rights transfers are $100, payable by either the original or new party.

Option 2 –

Custom book cover photo shoot with teaser images included starting at $600: ($400 photographer fee, model fee is determined per model/agency $200-$500 per model). (For Author’s viewing only)!

To book a custom photo shoot a $100 deposit/holding fee is required. This $100 fee is applied to the total amount owed and is not a separate fee.  The notes in option two build on many of the notes from option one.

Notes:

  1. Price includes session fee, 1 cover image, and multiple images for promotional use. Promotional use includes: teasers for book promotion and swag (items given at author signings – bookmarks, key chains, postcards, etc.) It does not include items for commercial use such as posters or calendars that will be sold.
If the author is looking for a front/back cover combination, 2 of the images can be utilized while the remaining images will be for teaser use.
  2. Looking to create a series from the above package?
    • Option 1 – Cover images plus teasers:
      • From the photographer pricing side, 2 covers/with teasers (an additional $200 for a duet), and 3 covers/ with teasers (an additional $300 for the trilogy on top of the initial $400 =$700 total). If you’re doing something even bigger, the same math scheme applies.
      • On the model side of the transaction, this will require an additional fee per model/cover as well.
    • Option 2 – Cover images only (no teasers):
      • Duology – $500 for the photographer
      • Trilogy – $600 for the photographer
      • This will require an additional $100 fee per model/cover as well.
  3. Purchasing teaser/promotional images beyond the package is available for $50 each.
  4. The final edited high-resolution images are licensed only to the AUTHOR who commissioned the custom photo shoot. A proof gallery will be created for the author with the images from the photoshoot. Within the gallery, the author can provide feedback and select their final choices for cover(s)/teasers.
  5. The image(s) cannot be resold once purchased.
  6. Client is responsible for determining the photoshoot location, poses of the model, and wardrobe selection/purchase/delivery. The photographer is available to offer options and suggestions along the way.
  7. Before the shoot, the author and the photographer, Brian Huey, will meet to discuss the themes of the novel, the mood or tone of the models, who the characters are, etc. Before the photo shoot, the author will be able to see the model(s) in the desired outfit and give a final approval on their look. If the author isn’t present for the photo shoot, he/she will be kept informed of the shoot’s progression and receive screenshots throughout the photo shoot to make sure the specified theme/concepts are being met.
  8. Travel arrangements must be accommodated (flight/hotel) for the model(s) and photographer.  Brian is located just outside the Orlando, FL area and considers the Orlando area to be “local.” Tampa is nearby with lovely beaches, and that requires a minimal travel stipend (typically $50).
  9. Client is responsible for models hair/makeup/styling.
  10. NOTE: After the custom photo shoot is completed, different poses/outfits/locations taken after completion of the custom shoot are available for further licensing by Brian Huey.

Additional Notes:

  1. Authors do not need to re-license a photo for other mediums or subsequent printings after purchase. Once an image is purchased it is theirs for exclusive book cover use on that title indefinitely. Examples include audiobook cover use, international foreign language cover versions, etc.
    • Brian encourages books being made available in multiple formats and as an avid audiobook consumer, he commends authors for making audiobooks available.
  2. All book covers will be promoted via Brian Huey’s social media. (Cover announcement/cover reveal/live release). Also, if interested author spotlight features are available via the Brian Huey website.
  3. All sales are final. Refunds and/or exchanges are not available.
    • Brian Huey is not responsible for a model’s comments and/or opinions on social media or physical actions.
    • Brian Huey is not responsible for cover designs that may resemble another cover design by another author.
  4. While not required, the photographer and the models always appreciate a copy of the final product for display.
